Mass Media and Pop Culture
The media influences people in many ways. It afftects the way you dress, how you behave and speak, how you feel about yourself, how you relate to others and how you spend your time and money. When you are constantly seeing people wearing certain clothes, dressing a certain way, speaking and acting a certain way and doing certain things it will eventually rub off on you. This will affect everything about you. For example, if skinny jeans are constantly being advertised then you will eventually start to like this style. I used to hate skinny jeans, but after a while i eventually gave in a bought some and now i really like them. This also affected what i spent my money on because I normally wouldn't have bought them, but after having been influenced by the media I spent my time and money on them. You also get influenced on how you feel about yourself. When you are constantly seeing people whom seem to be perfect it is hard not to compare yourself to them and it is hard not to critic yourself according to your comparison. This can cause people to feel very negative towards themselves. When you see people in the media behaving a certain way it will affect how you behave and how you relate to others. For example, if you see people stereotyping people you will stereotype those people and it will affect how you relate to them.

Imagine
The song, "Imagine," by John Lennon is a song I very much enjoy. After having listened to this song many times I realized that there is a message hidden within the song. When I first listened to this song I thought it was just about a dreamer, someone whom believes the most outrageous things can happen. After listening to this song again, and really paying attention to the words, I realized that this song is really about communism. Even by just listening to the first paragraph you can tell the real message of the song is about communism. For example, the first paragraph says,"Imagine there's no countries, it isn't hard to do, nothing to kill, or die for and no religion, too." A communistic government is a government in which there is one dictator running the country. In this type of government everyone is told what to believe, so there wouldn't be anything to kill, or die for. In this type of government the person in control wants everyone to believe in them and only them, so religion would not be allowed within the country.

KFC Commercial Fiasco
The KFC in Australia recently produced a commercial, which caused a major uproar. This commercial was thought of as very racist. In this commercial there is a Cocasian man surrounded by many roudy Africans. Then the Cocasian man gets a bucket of KFC chicken and shares it with the Africans. This action makes the Africans calm down. While this is happening a background voice is saying how KFC can make an awkward situation into something enjoyable. This commercial was thought of as a rascist stereotype because this commercial is saying that all Africans like fried chicken and that it will shut them up. This commercial also implied that it would be awkward for a Cocasian to be in the midst of Africans. Now at first glance this commercial does seem very racist and stereotypical, but after much thought you notice that in actuality it isn't. In this commercial these people are actually attending a cricket match. The Cocasian is wearing an Australian cricket shirt and therefore, cheering for Australia. The Africans are cheering for a different team. This would of course be a very awkard situation. The meaning behind the KFC is not that all Africans like fried chicken and that it will make them quiet, but just that KFC is something everyone likes and that it is somehting that gives you something to bond over, even in the most awkward situation.
